Storyteller's Chair

The school received a very generous donation from the Searl family and  used  it to pay for a storyteller's chair.
The Searl family have had a member of their family attending Balcombe School for 34 consecutive y
ears. The last Searle - Charlie, left the school for Warden Park last summer 2006.

The chair was skilfully made by Matthew Cox, the local blacksmith.

The chair is located near an oak tree which means children can enjoy stories in sun and shade.

The chair will be looked after and used for years to come.

Balcombe CE Primary - Community

A number of different people and organisations make up our community - parents, governors, PTA, the village community and the Nears group of schools.

Whenever it can the school plays an active part in the life of the village - lending resources, participating or contributing towards local events, performing for local organisations. The school often benefits from individual expertise and local knowledge. Whenever appropriate, input from the local community is used to enrich and extend children's learning.

Balcombe CE School along with nine other rural village schools belongs to the Nears (Network of Eastern Area schools) group of schools. Belonging to this group has many advantages:

  • schools can compete against each other in a range of sporting events -basketball, athletics, football, netball, cross- country, swimming.

  • children from Nears schools attend  enrichment learning activities where they mix, learn and work together.

  • Staff attend joint in-service training session and work together on network learning projects.
